The Louisville Slugger LXT might the single most iconic fastpitch bat in the world. For several years, it has been one of if not the most popular fastpitch bat. The model’s dedication to a light swing, big barrel, and smooth feel is the envy of most other fastpitch bats.
The 2021 Louisville Slugger LXT and its 2020 LXT parent are poised to dominate the youth and collegiate scene again. We’ve hit every one of those bats with real fastpitch players over the course of the last five years. Below compiles our reviews.
We hit every bat we review. That includes our Louisville Slugger LXT reviews below, too.

We hit with the 2019 LXT from Slugger nearly 800 times before writing this review. During that time, we documented exit speeds, barrel sizes and the swing weight of the bat.
That data forms all of our fastpitch bat reviews. The LXT is a good fit for the fastpitch player who is serious about fastpitch, has the budget for it and is looking to find as much bat speed as possible. Our insights on the 2019 Slugger LXT follow.

The LXT often sits atop our list of the 7 best fastpitch bats.
As a light swinging, big barreled fastpitch bat with a number of sizes and drops the LXT comes recommendable to a number of players. The fact it delivered well in our exit speed test was useful too and, at least in some cases, justifies its price point.
We would recommend it to players of all ages who are taking fastpitch very seriously. Those who need or prefer a light swing for as much bat speed and control as possible will really like the LXT. It's top end performance is proven at every level of fastpitch and the bat comes highly recommended.
Price CheckThe LXT measures out as Slugger’s easiest swinging bat. We measured the swing weights of every top end bat on the market and found it to be well under the average. The 2019 LXT was 5% lighter than the Slugger Xeno and over 10% lighter than the PXT. (Note, this was in the drop 10 32/22 space). It is safe to say the LXT is the lightest swinging bat in the Slugger lineup of top end fast pitch bats.
Barrel size on the LXT looked good, too. It found itself right in the middle of the top end fastpitch bats. Right next to the XENO.
In turn, the bat comes in every size, nearly, imaginable. Expect a drop 8, 9, 10, 11 and, for 2019 a drop 12. (The drop is the numerical difference between the weight of a bat in ounces and the length of the bat in inches. So, a 32-inch bat that weighs 22 ounces is referred to as a drop 10).

We’ve now had several batting practice sessions with several hitters using the 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper fastpitch bat.

In that time, we’ve discussed with those at Slugger corporate, read a number of other online reviews from vendors on their first take and watched a dozen or so other players hit with the 2017 LXT Hyper. We used that insight to compile these recommendations and our 2017 Louisville Slugger LXT Hyper Review.
In that process, we have confirmed the bat’s prowess, performance and massive size offerings. We also submit the LXT Hyper may have the best progeny of any fastpitch bat on the market today. As such, we’d recommend the LXT Hyper to nearly any serious player looking for a top shelf performance fastpitch bat. If you play 35+ games a season then it’s likely there is a fitting size for you in the 2017 LXT Hyper from Slugger.
The 2017 LXT Hyper from Louisville Slugger may very well be the most popular performance fastpitch bat for 2017. Some reasons for this:
The LXT line from Slugger is a well known and very well received stick at all levels of the sport.
The LXT Hyper covers nearly every swing size imaginable.
The balance swing weight is exactly what most players prefer.
The more flexible transition makes for very silky smashes and tolerable mishits.
Add these bat facts to Louisville Slugger's top notch distribution, name recognition and customer loyalty and it's really hard to go wrong with the 2017 LXT Hyper. There really isn't a serious fastpitch player, who plays more than 35 games (or so) a season, where we would not recommend the bat. If there were someone to hold back from the checkout isle, would consider those who find even the drop 8 LXT Hyper too light or those who play a lot in cold weather and need an aluminum barrel to reconsider. Of course those unwilling to afford a top shelf bat would be directed elsewhere too. Otherwise, we can't think of a single competitive softball player who should hesitate on the 2017 LXT Hyper.

We spent 2 hours in our cage comparing the 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT PLUS Fastpitch softball bat to other similar designs in the market. We received feedback from 4 different hitters—each of whom plays competitive fastpitch.

We also spent 2 hours researching previous versions of the LXT from slugger on vendor sites and analyzing YouTube videos, as well as our own cage time, of bat performance.
We also read at least a dozen online reviews that discuss the bat, albeit superficially, and exchanged a few emails with Louisville Slugger’s bat team. We took these data points and added them in the written form below for our 2016 Louisville Slugger LXT PLUS Review.
With that background, we are confident in recommending the LXT plus to hitters who prefer a light swinging two-piece composite softball bat in the top shelf performance space. The bat should be appreciated by players who:
If a vote as the best fastpitch bat in 2016 isn't telling enough as to our feelings on the 2016 LXT plus then we're not quite sure how else we could say it. The bat is down right dangerous with its stiff transition and monster over performing barrel. The success at all pitch speeds---collegiate to near coach pitch---is what we thought most impressive. You'd see this bat hitting line drives in a 9u game and then turn on ESPN to the fast-pitch world series and see it again at the plate dropping trips like steph curry.
Price CheckThe 2016 LXT PLUS, like previous year’s versions, is a balanced bat with a gigantic sweet spot and a very stiff transition preferred by elite level players. The composite has been upgraded to this year’s PLUS—to add some durability and better control swing weight—the LXT remains a two piece composite bat built with a stiff transition and remarkable production along the entire length of the barrel.
The LXT Plus uses a composite “slug” insert between the barrel and handle that helps dampen sting. Louisville Slugger has used this design feature for several years among several of their high performance bats. It is referred to as the TRU3 connective piece. The insert makes the bat, officially, a three piece bat design.
There are also two barrels within the 2016 LXT Plus. The outer barrel is tuned for maximum performance across its entire length while the inner barrel makes sure high pitch speeds and massive collisions keep the barrel within legal limits. The benefit to the hitter is no work in period for the composite barrel and legitimate bat performance across all pitch speeds.
