2021 Rawlings Quatro Pro Review

November 13, 2020 | by Bat Digest Review Team | @BatDigest

We took the 2021 BBCOR and USA Rawlings Quatro Pro for a spin. After four hitting sessions and three different hitters over 500 hits, we put this 2021 Rawlings Quatro Pro review together.

Our hitters like the flexible handle–although not as flexible as last year—huge barrel, and light swing of the 2021 Rawlings Quatro Pro. That holds true for both the USA and BBCOR versions of the bat. The Lizard Skin grip is a nice touch and the non flared handle was preferred by 2 of the 4 hitters.

The Rawlings Quatro Pro in BBCOR or USA is made for the player that wants a huge barrel profile, light swing and a flexible feeling on contact. In terms of performance, the bat does as well as any in its class. The bat’s sound is hollow. For some, the more flexible handle won’t be preferred—they’ll like the stiffer feel of a single piece or tighter two-piece like the META. But, for those base hit type players that want the best Rawlings has to offer, the Rawlings Quatro Pro is it.

BBCOR Quatro Pro Recommendations
2021 Rawlings Quatro Pro Review

Aside from the paint job, there are not any noticeable feel and performance changes from the 2020 “Cherry Bomb”. Still a huge barrel on a skinny handle with some Lizard Skin grip to boot. However, compared to the 2019 and 2018 versions of the bat there’s been considerable changes. The bat feels different than that yellow glow stick which, although had a propensity for an early break, sure hit the ball well. If it were us, we’d be perfectly happy with the 2021 or 2020 Rawlings Quatro for that hitter that preferred a two-piece composite with a big barrel and lighter swing. This bat in the right kid’s hands would do some damage.

USA Quatro Pro Recommendations
2021 Rawlings Quatro Pro Review

The USA Quatro for 2021 is one of the very few to be released. Many other model lines, inside and outside of Rawlings, got pushed due to COVID-19. It’s drop 12, 10, and 8 are great solutions to the otherwise bare market. The bat swings light for its class has a massive barrel and flexible handle. The drop 12 is tough to impress–but we don’t know any drop 12 bat’s that are impressive. There’s rarely enough weight behind a drop 12 bat to do any real damage.

The bat sings in the drop 8 space and we’d encourage anyone on the cusp of the drop 10/8 to see if they can’t go to the drop 8 in an inch shorter over an inch longer in a drop 10. That more compact weight distribution in the drop 8 gives the bat more punch and more durability. It is worth the jump if, and make sure it is an ‘if’, the player can swing it well. The best bat is never on the one in the wrong size.

2021 vs 2020 Quatro Pro

The major change in the 2021 Quatro Pro is an updated connection piece. Rawlings calls this the F2 and it is a bit stiffer than previous year’s versions of the bats. Although to be sure, it still feels flexible. But it isn’t META or The Goods stiff.

Other wise, still the same “suspended” inner barrel, lizard skin grip, big barrel and sizing options as the 2020 Quatro Pro.

Bat Review

Quatro Pro

Our 2020 Rawlings Quatro Pro review consists of hitting with the USA, USSSA and BBCOR versions of the bat. Our hitters thought the USSSA and drop 10 USA versions are highly recommendable. The BBCOR version, one of our favorite BBCOR bats in previous years, fell short this year with its feel and performance lacking compared to the 2019 and 2018 versions. The Drop 12 USA version is terribly light, maybe too much so, and sounds broke--although it's exit speeds were decent for a drop 12.

Rawlings looks to improve upon the durability of their flagship bat with the 2019 Rawlings Quatro Pro. The BBCOR version of the bat was our favorite bbcor bat in 2018.

Comparable Bats

Two-piece composite bats with a light swing and big barrel are the sweet spot of most major bat companies. Bats like Easton’s ADV, DeMarini’s CF, Louisville Slugger’s Prime and META, Axe’s Avenge, and so on focus on this niche. There is no shortage of light swinging two-piece composite bats with a big barrel on the market today (or yesterday). It is, to be frank, hard to make a real distinction between them.

For the 2021 Quatro Pro, the major advantage is the big barrel profile. It also has feel somewhere in between the stiffness of the CF and Meta.

Otherwise, lots of those bats are very similar and hard to distinguish.

2021 CF
See the CF Review

The 2021 DeMarini CF is just like the 2020 line. That is not a bad thing. All versions have that flex feel handle. The BBCOR swings light. The USSSA drop 10, 8, and 5 will still be legendary. The USA version is still struggling to impress (as all USA bats are). Also, the 2021 bat is called the CF, not the “CF Zen.” But, plenty of people search or refer to the bat as the “Zen,” so we use it here. But, to be sure, it is the 2021 CF.

2020 Meta
See the Meta Review

The most popular and highly rated BBCOR bat for 2019 is back in the 2020 Louisville Slugger Meta Prime. We took to the cage, spoke to some folks at Slugger and write this 2020 Meta Prime Review. After recording exit speeds, measuring barrel sizes and recording player feedback we think the 2020 Meta the best BBCOR bat on the market today if the price doesn’t matter. Of course, we wish it cost less. But, even at a premium above all bats vendors find it hard to keep in stock. Our Score 9.9 (BBCOR).

2020 Prime
See the Prime Review

Our 2020 Louisville Slugger Prime review consists of years of data collection for the Slugger Prime bats. The 2020 edition will be the 6th edition of the Prime. As expected, the 2020 version is a two piece composite bat built with a balanced swing weight, big barrel and comes in a number of sizes in the BBCOR, USA and USSSA space. There are virtually no changes in the construction of the bat from the 2019 versions.

2021 Quatro Pro Construction

The Rawlings Quatro Pro is a two-piece composite bat with a light swing, big barrel, and mildly stiff connection. In terms of bullet points, here’s what we got:

  • F2 Collar (This is the new connection that helps stiffen it up from 2020).
  • Very Light End Cap
  • “Suspended Inner Barrel.” Basically, they’ve inserted the barrel with some foam type material that keeps the inner barrel off the outside barrel. I’m sure the Rawlings engineers cringe at our description there. So, for what its worth.
  • Lizard Skin Grip
